I grew up in Colorado — and for a while I had a life that looked fine from the outside. Stable job, familiar faces, a path that made sense on paper. But I was deeply unhappy. So I left. I took an internship in California without knowing a single person, without a guarantee of anything — just a leap of faith and the desperate belief that something had to be better than staying. That summer changed everything. The internship became a job, the job became a life, and I never looked back.
I was a college athlete who had to figure out who I was when the game ended. I’ve been heartbroken, started completely over, and found myself in ways I never expected.
Now I talk about all of it. Authentically. Unfiltered. Because someone out there needs to hear what I wish someone had said to me.

I was openly gay long before I moved to California. But California was the first place I felt truly safe — like I could breathe and exist without looking over my shoulder.
